Good news: Heronswood cultivars won eight more ribbons at the Philadelphia Flower show during the last round on Friday, March 9. Corydalis muliensis and Cannomois virgata both received a first place blue, and Tricyrtis formosana ‘Variegata’ and Viola odorata brought home the second. In third place were Carex elata ‘Aurea’, Chondropetalum tectorum, Geranium hayatanum (again), and Helleborus x hybridus ‘Kingston Cardinal’ (again). This brings our total to 6 first place, 4 second place and 7 third place, along with a number of honorable mentions and citations. Here are some images from this fun event.
Here is the Philly Heronswood booth. The two Little and Lewis “dinosaur eggs” add an odd touch of drama. ‘Green Heron’ hatches from the left one and the handsome ‘Snow Bunting’ with its dark green foliage, emerges from the right. Blooms of experimental hellebores float on the water of the little pool on the floor.

Many new 2008 cultivars will debut at our April 20-21 Hellebore Open at Fordhook in Doylestown, Pa.
