Virginia is the only state that you are still allowed to sit for the bar exam without attending a law school. It is not a widely published item but if you research it, you will find that our laws reflect the same thoughts that were in place during the time of Jefferson. If you know your stuff, it really shouldn't matter if you have the formal training. I suppose that if one were to pass the bar they would have to learn their way around in the system in a hurry or appear VERY foolish. I also would expect that judges wouldn't be willing to hold your hand, so to speak. If the person was smart (or knowledgeable) to pass the bar, I would guess they would figured out the system as well.

Sincerely,
Betrice
